Buddha street

One hundred years ago, Bamrung Muang was one of the most diverse shopping and commercial area in Bangkok. One of the oldest roads in the Thai capital, next to Wat Suthat temple in the old city of Rattanakosin, it was home to its first western-style shopping mall, barber shops, laundry services and concrete shop houses. But while Bangkok is modernizing fast, “the road embellishing the city” (its Thai name) has turned the other way and replaced its shops selling luxury goods with small stores producing and selling Buddhist paraphernalia, from statues of all sizes to amulets and ceremonial fans. It now has the greatest concentration of Buddhist supply shops in the country.
